Sad Day for LGBT -- Prop 8 Passes

Our new president elect says A new day is dawning,
And he is right.
For the first time in history, America has a black president
For the first time in history, if present trends continue, an American state will amend its constitution to take away a basic human right.
And that historic discrimination will come at the hands of thousands of people who voted for our new president.
A president who does not support our right to marry.
I respect the brilliance of his campaign and the historic nature of his victory.
But right now, it is had to tell if LGBT people are seeing the dawn of a new day or the sunset of our rights.
President-elect Obama says he wants to be the President of all Americans, even the ones who did not vote for him.
What about LGBT Americans who worked for, contributed to and voted for him?
President-elect Obama says he believes in civil unions not gay marriage.
But when will words turn into action?
How much longer must LGBT people pay into a social security system that refuses to pay benefits to our spouses?
How much longer must LGBT people pay equal taxes for unequal rights?
How much longer must LGBT people fight in the armed forces of a country that denies them the most basic of human rights?
And when will America's black community face up to the rampant homophobia within that community?
The answers to these questions will show if LGBT people are included when President-elect Obama says he wants to be the President of all Americans.
